Congratulations, You're Pregnant!

Whether this pregnancy was carefully planned or came as a surprise, seeing those two lines can bring a flood of emotions—excitement, joy, nervousness, and maybe even fear.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, you're not alone. The first trimester is a season of major physical and emotional changes, and many moms wonder what to expect.

In this First Trimester Survival Guide, we're sharing the experience of one of our Hellomiz moms, Brooklyn Drinnan (@brooklyndrinnan), along with simple tips to help you navigate these early weeks with confidence.

What Happens During the First Trimester?

The first trimester spans weeks 1 through 12 and is often one of the biggest adjustment periods of pregnancy. Common symptoms include:

  • Extreme fatigue
  • Morning sickness
  • Mood swings
  • Bloating
  • Food cravings and aversions

While every pregnancy is unique, these symptoms are common as your body adjusts to supporting your growing baby.

A Real Mom's Experience

Hellomiz mom Brooklyn Drinnan shares what her second pregnancy was like while caring for her 19-month-old son.

Finding Out She Was Pregnant

"When I found out I was pregnant, I was honestly pretty nervous, but so beyond excited! My husband and I always wanted kids close in age, and with my son being 19 months old now, they will be 23 months apart."

Navigating the First Trimester

"This pregnancy was so different from my first. I had no appetite, was constantly nauseous, and I was surprised that I couldn't even brush my teeth without almost throwing up."

Brooklyn found that eating early in the morning helped manage her nausea.

"With my morning sickness, I had to make sure I was eating before 10 a.m. every day, otherwise I would feel horrible the rest of the day. I recommend eating as soon as you wake up if you can."

She also noticed stronger emotions during this pregnancy.

"This pregnancy definitely threw me a curveball with how intense my emotions were. I was just a big ball of emotions!"

Advice for First-Time Moms

"If you're a first-time mom and you feel like you're in it right now, just know it gets so much easier. It is beyond worth it in the end."

First Trimester Survival Tips

  • Give yourself time to process. A mix of emotions is completely normal.
  • Expect the unexpected. Every pregnancy is different, and some symptoms may surprise you.
  • Don't let yourself get too hungry. Eating small meals and keeping simple snacks nearby may help with nausea.
  • Prioritize rest and comfort. Focus on sleep, hydration, gentle movement, and comfortable clothing.
  • Ask questions. Whether it's your healthcare provider or your support system, no question is too small.

Quick Morning Sickness Tips

  • Eat before getting out of bed.
  • Sip water throughout the day.
  • Avoid strong smells when possible.
  • Eat small meals frequently.
  • Keep crackers nearby.

First Trimester Essentials

Many moms find these items helpful:

  • Reusable water bottle
  • Simple snacks
  • Prenatal vitamins
  • Comfortable leggings or lounge pants
  • Ginger chews or ginger tea

You're Not Alone

The first trimester can feel like a whirlwind, but remember there is no "perfect" way to experience pregnancy. Give yourself grace, listen to your body, and lean on your support system when needed.

As Brooklyn shared, the difficult days are temporary, and every step brings you closer to meeting your baby.

You've got this, mom.
